Welcome to our site
There's nothing like a nice fire in the living room to make your Charlotte house feel like a home, but maybe you haven't given much thought to its maintenance. Maybe you're worried that soot will get on your carpet if you have it cleaned, or maybe you just don't have the time to call a chimney cleaner. These are valid concerns, but your chimney is an integral part of your home, and like everything else, it needs to be maintained.

Most people think that soot is the main reason your chimney needs cleaning, but it's a little more complicated than that. Soot is certainly a concern in that it does make your chimney flue dirty and can restrict air flow, but burning wood also gives off a naturally occurring substance called creosote, which is highly flammable. As the smoke wafts up the flue and along the sides, it comes into contact with cooler air from the outside. This in turn causes the creosote to condense on the walls of the flue, creating a serious fire hazard. You may have seen it at one time or another: it's brown or black, may look like tar, and is sticky to the touch. If it builds up, it can catch fire and ruin your chimney, not to mention destroy your home. Fireplace and wood stove fires are responsible for about 100,000 house fires and 200 deaths a year. It should be obvious that regular maintenance is essential for the longevity of the chimney in your Charlotte home.

Which raises the question: how often should I have my chimney flue cleaned? The National Fire Protection Association suggests that all chimneys and fireplaces be inspected at least once a year to assure that the smoke is clearing properly. And the Chimney Safety Institute recommends that fireplaces be cleaned after 1/8 inches build up. For most homeowners, this amounts to about 75 uses, a number many people reach in a given winter.

A regular inspection and cleaning can help you prevent most fireplace hazards. Charlotte homeowners care about their families, and ff you are worried about your family's safety, or even if your chimney is giving off a bad smell, one of our chimney sweep technicians can advise you on the proper maintenance, what sort of firewood to use, and how you can get the most from your fireplace.

We are proud members of the National Chimney Sweep Guild, a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting chimney and fireplace safety. It's goal is the safety for your home through providing educational materials to homeowners and chimney professionals throughout the United States.
